Rostov-na-Donu is one of the most important cities in the south of Russia and is called "The Gates of the Caucasus". It is located in the southern part of the East-European Plato. It lies partly in the North Caucasian Region, covering a vast territory in the basin of the Don River. Rostov-na-Donu was founded in 1749 at the place formally occupied by the Temernic Custom-House.

Rostov-na-Donu has experienced considerable economic growth in recent years, as the Russian economy recovers nationwide. Numerous start-up companies have established headquarters in the city, the median income is increasing, and Rostov-na-Donu is being transformed from a place thrown back in time by the collapse of communism into a modern, industrial and technology-rich hub.

Rostov-na-Donu is well-known of its cultural and folk traditions. Don Region the region of wide open spaces, the place where the Don river flows down into the Azov sea. Its prominent history and folklore attracts tourists from all over the world.
